Alajuelense president Fernando Ocompo has seemingly confirmed that his club plan to try and agree a deal with Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre at the end of the season, the Daily Record reports.

Izaguirre is arguably one of the two best left-backs in the Scottish Premiership, but unfortunately for the 30-year-old, the very best in the division is his Celtic teammate Kieran Tierney, meaning that he has fewer opportunities to play than a player of his calibre arguably deserves.

The Honduran is out of contract in the summer, and the Record reports that he is likely to leave Parkhead at the end of his current deal, and Ocompo confirmed that the Costa Rican side are hoping to lure him to the club.

“Emilio Izaguirre is a great player. We are going to wait until the end of the season before we negotiate a deal,” he said, as reported by the Record.

While few Hoops fans would begrudge Izaguirre the chance to make a move that would allow him to enjoy more first-team football – given his contribution during his seven-year stay with the club – it would arguably be a blow to see him leave.

If Celtic hope to make more of an impact in Europe while also continuing to dominate the domestic game, they arguably need the kind of depth that they currently boast at left-back with Tierney and Izaguirre fighting over the position, and replacing the latter will surely be an extremely difficult task for Brendan Rodgers.
