Al-Ittihad have sounded out Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate about a move to Saudi Arabia.
That is according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
Hawkins has reported on Twitter that Al-Ittihad are interested in Ibrahima Konate but the Frenchman is happy at Liverpool and still has things he wants to accomplish there.
Konate is obviously not the only Liverpool player Al-Ittihad want. According to the Daily Mail, the Saudi Pro League outfit are keen on Mohamed Salah and are refusing to give up on signing the 31-year-old.
Losing Salah now would be a huge blow with there being very little time to replace the Egyptian. He has made a good start to the new season, scoring one goal and providing two assists in three Premier League outings.
Liverpool should not sell Ibrahima Konate
Konate is certainly doing a job for Liverpool now, but he is also the Merseyside club’s future.
The France international is 24 years of age, while Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are both in their 30s. They will not be around forever, so the Reds would be wise to keep hold of Konate.
The former RB Leipzig man has had his injury problems during his time at Anfield. But when he is fit, he is a real presence for them at the back.
This season, Konate is winning 2.5 aerial duels per game, which is the highest average in Jurgen Klopp’s squad (WhoScored). He is also making three tackles a match, more than any other player at Anfield.
If Al-Ittihad come in with a crazy bid, then you could not blame Liverpool for considering selling the central defender.
But given that he wants to stay at the club and is a quality centre-half, the Reds really should be looking to keep hold of him, while the same also goes for Salah.
