Pedro Caixinha’s move to Glasgow Rangers looks to be imminent after current employers Al Gharafa issued an update on his future on Thursday.
Caixinha, who managed in Portugal and Mexico before moving to Qatar in 2015, emerged as a shock contender to succeed Mark Warburton at Ibrox last week.
The Portuguese coach quickly became favourite for the role, however, his appointment appeared to encounter a delay.
An announcement now appears to be on the horizon, though, after an announcement on Al Gharafa’s official Twitter account read: “(Al Gharafa) approves transfer of Pedro Caixinha to Rangers Football Club”.
Rangers travel to Old Firm rivals Celtic on Sunday, although Caixinha, who was previously employed as a scout for the Bhoys, is not expected to take charge of the fixture.
Ibrox academy coach Graeme Murty has taken control of the first team in the aftermath of Warburton’s departure, and looks set to lead the Gers for the final time before resuming normal service.

Caixinha, who won three trophies with Mexican side Santos Laguna, is likely to make his Rangers bow against Hamilton Academical a week on Saturday.
