Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta included Tim Akinola in first-team training at London Colney on Thursday, according to AllNigeriaSoccer.
What’s the story?
It has been reported that Arsenal manager Arteta has included the 20-year-old defensive midfielder several times in first-team training this month.
The youngster could reportedly be included in the Gunners’ matchday squad for their Carabao Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon.
Akinola, who is a defensive midfielder, is part of the Arsenal youth team and is a regular there.
AllNigeriaSoccer have reported that the youngster’s current contract runs out at the end of the 2021-22 season, with Arsenal holding a two-year option.

Encouraging
Arsenal are well stocked in defensive midfield, and Akinola is unlikely to establish himself as a regular in the first team anytime soon.
However, Akinola is only 20, and the defensive midfielder will know that it is going to be hard for him to become a first-team squad member.
However, it is very encouraging for the youngster than Arteta rates him so highly and has included him in first-team training.
If Akinola gets his chance to play for the Arsenal first team, then he will have to make the most of it.
