Wycombe Wanderers striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has hailed Tottenham ace Dele Alli and insisted the youngster is proving a valuable lesson for big clubs.

Spurs bought Alli from League One side MK Dons two seasons ago, loaning him back to the club for six months.

In the past 18 months Alli has scored 20 goals for Tottenham, including seven in his last four games.

He netted a brace in the 2-0 win over Chelsea last night, winning wide acclaim from fans and the football community.

Akinfenwa, notably known as the strongest footballer in the country, played against Alli when the youngster was at MK Dons, and said it was not an enjoyable experience.

The 34-year-old said he was at least pleased to see even supposed world class players struggle to contain Alli, and that the youngster’s success proves the talent which exists in the lower leagues.

Tottenham are being handsomely repaid for taking a gamble on Alli, and their success is likely to have more Premier League clubs looking down the divisions in the future.

Spurs might have been better off doing so this past summer too, with neither foreign import Vincent Janssen or Georges-Kevin N’Koudou yet making even half the impact Alli has.
