Nottingham Forest’s Oliver Burke celebrates scoring his teams third goal
Nottingham Forest continued their exciting start to this Championship season, running out 3-1 winners against Leeds United.
Pajtim Kasami scored his first goal for his new team to put Forest ahead, and Damien Perquis also opened his Forest account to double the hosts advantage.
Kalvin Phillips got Leeds back into the contest late into the second half, but the game was settled seconds from time when Oliver Burke rounded two defenders to place the ball under Leeds keeper Rob Green.
The win leaves Forest within touching distance of the play-off places, whilst Leeds are hovering above the relegation zone. But what has delighted Nottingham Forest fans almost as much as the three points earned today by their team, are some eye-catching post match comments given by Leeds manager Garry Monk.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Monk said: “We gifted them two soft goals, which made it difficult. In general play we were the better team.
“From the 46th minute they were wasting time, they looked nervous when it came to holding on to their 1-0 lead. But we never really pushed them back.We needed to be more clinical, we needed to take our chances.
“We conceded soft goals and Forest did nothing in general play otherwise. If not for the goals we conceded we would have won the game, definitely.”
A bizarre thing for Monk to come out with undoubtedly – because of course if Forest hadn’t have scored their three goals then Leeds would have won the game. Forest fans have taken to Twitter to express their bemused reactions to the interview, and perhaps to rub the victory in the noses of Leeds fans some more.
