In an interview given to BBC Radio 5 Live, Arsenal boss Arsène Wenger has admitted that he remains unsure as to whether he will still be in charge at the North-London club beyond the end of this season.

When asked, Wenger simply replied “My contract runs until the end of the season. What I will do after will depend a little bit on how the season goes.”

The Frenchman has long served as manager of the Gunners, but in the more recent years of his near 20-year-long reign has come in for criticism from sections of supporters as the club’s return of major trophies has dried up.

Wenger’s future as manager is speculated upon relentlessly after every dip in his team’s form, and it would appear that the 66 year old is aware that another disappointing season for Arsenal could lead to more fans becoming disillusioned at the club.

It was thought that because of his service to the club and the success that Wenger brought in the first part of his time at Arsenal, that it would be the manager himself who decided when the right time would be to part ways with the club.

However, judging by the statement given in today’s interview it’s possible that Wenger sees this season as a make or break year for his career at Arsenal.

The Gunners have spent big money this summer on the signing of former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, recruiting the Swiss international for a fee of around £30 million.

Wenger has before spoken of his desire to sign another striker option in this window. If the Arsenal board back their manager with the kind of money to bring in a top class striker from Europe, and Arsenal still do not deliver a trophy or a title challenge, then their patience with Wenger may wear thin.

Wenger also rubbished speculation linking him with the recently vacant England manager’s job, claiming that “I was not available and Sam Allardyce has signed for two years, so the question is not of any actuality at the moment.”

Many had tipped Arsène Wenger to be an outstanding candidate to become England boss.

It appears that Wenger is determined for Arsenal to achieve success in this coming season. If they fail to do so, then he might just be out of the door at the Emirates.
