Tottenham beat Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals.

Dusan Tadic has been talking about last season’s painful Champions League exit for Ajax at the hands of Tottenham.

The Dutch side were a minute away from making the final, before Lucas Moura’s last ditch goal clinched his hat-trick and sent Spurs through on away goals at Ajax’s expense.

Tadic told The Telegraph he could barely watch the final, which Liverpool won 2-0.

He insists he felt that Ajax would have given Liverpool more of a game than Tottenham did.

He said: “I tried to watch the final, but switched it off. It was such a terrible game, probably one of the worst Champions League finals … most people at Ajax, they did not even bother to watch. They could not bear it.

“All I thought was that we would have played better [than Spurs]. We would have given Liverpool a tough game. That didn’t help me heal, thinking it should have been us.”

To be fair to Tottenham, they would recognise that if they had the chance to play the game again, they would do better than they did.

It could hardly have gone worse, having conceded a penalty in the first minute which Mohamed Salah scored. From there they were shellshocked and unable to fight back.

Ajax have a chance to resume their Champions League campaign this week, and have to start all over again, beginning with a home fixture against Lille tonight.

Tottenham kick their journey off away at Olympiakos tomorrow night, while Liverpool face Napoli this evening.
