Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Ajax are determined to sign Steven Bergwijn from Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Ajax simply won’t give up on signing Tottenham winger Bergwijn on a permanent deal this month.

Earlier this week, The Express reported that Ajax have had a bid of £15 million for the Netherlands international winger turned down.

Tottenham reportedly plan to keep Bergwijn, but Romano’s tweet, as you can below, suggests that there could still be a twist in the future of the Dutchman.

Tottenham should not offload Steven Bergwijn

In our view, Tottenham should not sell Bergwijn in the January transfer window, unless, of course, they get an offer that is too much to resist.

The Dutchman joined Tottenham from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020 for £27 million (BBC Sport).

So, in our opinion, Spurs should not sell Bergwijn for anything less than £27 million.

The former PSV star came off the bench to score two late goals against Leicester City in the Premier League last week and played well against Chelsea in the London derby last weekend.

Tottenham boss Conte has said that he believes that the 24-year-old can play as a striker, which shows just how much the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss rates him.

Spurs are in the race for the Premier League top four, and Conte needs to have a big squad to fulfil that quest.
