Ajax Cape Town will not stand in Rivaldo Coetzee’s way with a move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic possibly on the cards.
With every day that passes, Celtic appear to inch closer to the signing of Ajax Cape Town defender Rivaldo Coetzee.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Daily Record reported that the South African international would be left out of his club’s first game of the new season against Golden Arrows on Saturday amid speculation of an impending move to Europe.
This came just two days after the same newspaper claimed that Celtic would have to pay just £750,000 for a technically gifted centre-back with 22 international caps to his name at the tender age of 20.
And Ajax Cape Town’s technical director, Mich d’Avray, has now confirmed the Scottish Champions’ interest in Coetzee while admitting that they would not prevent him from seizing his chance in Europe.
“Yes, we are aware of the interest from Celtic,” d’Avray told South African publication IOL. “The club is still waiting for the official offer. I can also confirm that they did send a scout to watch Rivaldo.
“We don’t intend to stand in his way. If the offer is presented on the table, I have no doubt that the club will listen to it. At the moment, there is no concrete offer that I know of.”
Coetzee’s agent, Mike Makaab, backed up d’Avray’s claims, stating that Celtic had sent scouts to watch the centre-back in a friendly last week.
As it stands, however, Celtic appear the favourites.
