Aitor Karanka should be delighted that Ryan Yates has expressed a desire to commit his future to Nottingham Forest.

Yates has been sent out on loan twice this season, when he has played regularly.

However, this taste of first-team football, has only made Yates more hungry to make the grade at the City Ground.

Yates told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: “I felt it was a bit of a risk coming here because I was so comfortable at Notts County.

“But I felt if I want to play for Forest then this is the step up I need to take and I am relishing it.

“I really want to push myself because I want to play for Forest and as high as I can and this was the natural progression.

The comments should be music to Aitor Karanka’s ears, as Yates looks to have an extremely bright future.

The Forest academy graduate has caught the eye at both Notts County and Scunthorpe United, and has coped with every challenge thrown at him so far.

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka looks on during the Premier League match between Burnley and Middlesbrough at Turf Moor on December 26, 2016 in Burnley, England.

While he would be making a big step up to play for Forest, Yates will surely feel he has done enough this term to have earned a first-team chance.

Forest may have a number of creative options, but the 20-year-old could prove a valuable asset next term.

And the fact that Yates’ loan spells have worked out so successfully should delight Karanka, as he could now have another dangerous weapon to use next season at Forest.
