Karanka is now back above the Barnsley boss in the race to succeed Mark Warburton at Nottingham Forest.

Sky Bet‘s odds on Aitor Karanka becoming the new Nottingham Forest manager are shortening by the hour.
Karanka was the bookmaker’s early favourite for the City Ground post, but fell behind Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom on Sunday.
The pair have traded places again since then though, with Karanka now 1/20 as of Monday lunchtime, with Heckingbottom drifting out to 8/1.

Nottingham Forest, who sacked Mark Warburton on New Year’s Eve, are currently 14th in the Championship.
However, the managerless Reds turned in an impressive performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Sunday, running out 4-2 winners against the holders, whose side had a higher average age.
Karanka, who was Jose Mourinho’s assistant manager at Real Madrid, left first solo role as Middlesbrough boss in March 2017, 10 months after leading Boro back to the Premier League.

The Basque, who continues to reside in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, worked with Forest winger Mustapha Carayol at the Riverside Stadium.
Would Karanka be a good appointment for Nottingham Forest?
