Nottingham Forest’s decision to get rid of Ben Brereton may have backfired on them already, with their striking options looking short ahead of tonight’s game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Forest look likely to start with the out-of-form Lewis Grabban up top, but beyond that Aitor Karanka’s options are hardly plentiful.

With Daryl Murphy out injured and Tyler Walker out on loan, Forest don’t have another senior out-and-out forward to call upon.

Forest had banked on signing Karim Ansarifard, but a deal for the forward is taking longer than expected to get over the line.

And Karanka’s options up-top are now looking particularly short, with Brereton out of the picture.

Brereton could have added some much needed competition for places, but Karanka decided to loan him out to Blackburn in the summer.

And while the eventual fee Forest will get for Brereton looks healthy, the Reds may be wishing he was still around right now.
