Aitor Karanka makes bold statement on Nottingham Forest transfer plans

The Spaniard secured his first win as Nottingham Forest boss against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

New Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has promised that the club will end the January transfer window with a stronger squad than they started it.

The Spaniard picked up his first win since being appointed at the City Ground with a rousing 2-0 victory away to Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Karanka is pleased with the squad that he has inherited but has backed the club’s ownership to bring in a couple of signings who will improve the Tricky Trees.

“We have to grow, we have to be more intense,” he is quoted by BBC Sport as saying. “We have a really good squad. We were passing the ball really well – if we can play with more intensity we are going to improve.

“The club is very well organised – we will finish the transfer window with a better squad than we have now.”

As BBC Sport reports, Forest have been linked with a move for Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton, who worked with Karanka at the Riverside Stadium.

The Telegraph understands that Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda is another target for Karanka, who also has a goalkeeper and centre-back on his wish list.

Forest have already done a vit bit of January business – securing the services of Everton loanee Kieran Dowell, a scorer in the win at Molineux, until the summer.
