Nottingham Forest manager Aitor Karanka has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Joe Worrall could leave, amid reported interest from Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion.

Ibrox club Rangers are interested in signing Worrall from Forest in the Championship in England in the summer transfer window, according to The Daily Record.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is reported to have made an inquiry to sign the England Under-21 international on loan from the Reds this summer.

Championship trio Villa, West Brom and Stoke City are also interested in Worrall, according to The Daily Record.

Forest manager Karanka has suggested that the 21-year-old defender could leave the Reds on loan this summer.

Karanka told The Scottish Sun about Worrall: “The club know that the player needs to play and if the player wants to leave and we can find a solution that is good for him.

“If he wants to stay, he is a player who has played Championship football and he is in our squad – he is another who has come through our academy.

“But I do not know what will happen, because I prefer not to have two or three players coming to my office every day to talk about whether they are leaving or staying.”

Karanka added: “Everyone is fit for now but, in a week or two weeks there could be injuries and he could be ready to play his part.

“But if he does prefer to stay here, he needs to understand – and I have told him this – that it will be difficult for him to play right now. It is his decision.”

Loan move makes sense

Worrall is a very good and promising young defender, but with the 21-year-old down the pecking order, it would make sense for him to leave this summer on loan.

The defender certainly has a long-term future at the City Ground, but for now, the England Under-21 international would be better off at a club where he can play regularly.
