Jay Bothroyd has claimed on Twitter that Mikel Arteta just ‘ain’t the guy’ for Arsenal.
Arsenal slumped to a horrendous 2-1 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon.
Remember, the Gunners were also soundly beaten 3-0 by Crystal Palace on Monday night.
Both defeats have heavily dented the North Londoners’ bid to qualify for the Champions League and Tottenham could establish a three-point cushion in fourth place by winning at Aston Villa this evening.
Here’s how Bothroyd – who began his career at Arsenal – reacted on Twitter:
Not good enough?
Arsenal are the only top-four candidate that didn’t have European football this season.
That was a massive advantage that Arteta had over his competitors – not to mention the fact that the Gunners spent more than anyone in Europe last summer.
So if the Emirates Stadium outfit still fail to get fourth then it makes you wonder how next season is going to be any different.
Whatever happens, Arsenal will have more games next term and the strength of their squad will be tested a lot more, particularly when the first half of the season is spent playing Thursday-Sunday games as a result of the Europa League every two weeks.
At 40, Arteta, who earns £96,000 per week, is still an exciting and young manager, but the past six days have proven that he has so much to learn yet.
