Jamie Carragher has given his take on the situation of Arsenal midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles on Sky Sports News (2:10pm, August 31, 2021) amid interest from Rafael Benitez’s Everton.

The former Liverpool star feels sorry for Maitland-Niles, who can also play as a right-back, and has suggested that Arsenal should considering letting him leave if he wants to go and play football.

Carragher said on Sky Sports News (2:10pm, August 31, 2021): “I think with Maitland-Niles. I do feel a little bit for him.

“He wants to play football, it looks like he has no real future at Arsenal really, and at the last minute they are a blocking a move to Everton from what I can gather.

“I read something this morning that he would not be training with the first team, maybe that was a punishment for the Instagram post.

“Sometimes players just want to go and play football. I don’t think he is causing too much of a problem for Arsenal.”

Maitland-Niles said on Instagram yesterday that he wants to leave Arsenal before the summer transfer window closes tonight.

The 24-year-old wants to go where he is wanted and where he will play regularly.

Everton have made a loan offer to sign Maitland-Niles, but Arsenal have blocked it, according to The Mirror yesterday (2:05pm).

The Mirror reported this morning that Maitland-Niles has been told by Arsenal that he will not be training with the first team.

What should Arsenal do?

Arsenal should do the right thing and just let Maitland-Niles leave on loan on summer transfer deadline day.

What is the point in keeping a player against his wishes, especially if you are not going to play him?

The 24-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion from Arsenal.
