Aiden McGeady has told The Record that he’d jump at the chance to join Celtic again, and does not believe that their Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers will beat his former club tomorrow.

The 32-year-old left Parkhead for £9.5 million in 2010 to join Spartak Moscow – who host Rangers in a Europa League clash – after winning seven major trophies during a six-year stint in Celtic’s first team.

Now at Sunderland, the Scotland-born winger, who has 92 caps for the Republic of Ireland, has 18 months left to run on his contract on Wearside.

McGeady, who turns 33 in April, will have to start thinking about life beyond the pitch sooner or later and although he admits that it’d be a dream to finish his career with the Hoops, he can’t see it happening.

He told The Record: “I think the moment where I could have returned as Celtic player has passed. I would be happy to finish my career in a Celtic shirt, but I don’t think it will happen.

“I have not seriously thought about coaching career, but a couple of years ago I would have flatly rejected the idea of becoming a coach, but the older I get, the more I play and watch football, the more often I think about it.

“My attention is drawn now to certain coaching decisions and I think that perhaps in some situations I would have acted differently.”

McGeady spent four years in Russia after leaving Celtic, and the former Spartak trickster is predicting an easy night for his old side when Steven Gerrard’s visit the Russian capital tomorrow night.

He added: “Given the standard of player at Spartak, I don’t think they will have any problems against Rangers. If Spartak play the way I know they can, then they should have no problem achieving the right result.”

McGeady earns around £31,000 per week with the Black Cats, according to Silly Season.
