McGeady has been crucial for Sunderland since returning to the fold.

There is no doubt that Aiden McGeady is far too good for League One. Attitude and loyalty aside, the Sunderland attacker’s ability reaches far beyond the third tier of English football – and Jack Ross has to do his best to keep him.
The 32-year-old told The Record that he would love to return to Scottish champions Celtic before the end of his career, but the former Everton and Spartak Moscow man reckons that moment has passed.
He said: “I think the moment where I could have returned as Celtic player has passed. I would be happy to finish my career in a Celtic shirt, but I don’t think it will happen.”
McGeady made 185 appearances in all competitions for Celtic during his time north of the border, helping the Hoops win three Scottish Premiership titles. He left Celtic in 2010 to move to Russia with Spartak.
Whether it be Celtic or any other clubs that come in for McGeady – something that is inevitable considering his stature and experience – Ross has to do everything within in his power to keep the 93-time Ireland international.
McGeady has shown just how important he can be to Sunderland in his last three appearances. He scored in the 3-0 win over Southend, before single-handedly earning three points for the Wearside club last time out.

The versatile winger, who can also play up front and in the number 10 role, scored both goals away at Plymouth Argyle in a 2-0 win. His calmness under pressure and experience saw him step up and take a crucial penalty in the 78th minute.
Now on three goals and one assist in seven League One games, Ross will be under no illusion that McGeady is key to Sunderland if they are to gain an instant return to the Championship.
