Leeds United fans have been daring to dream all season about a return to the Premier League. They have been loitering in the play-off places for much of the season after a good turnaround of fortunes under the management of Garry Monk.

But their two trips down south recently have put a dent in those plans. Defeats at Reading and Brentford have them looking over their shoulders.

One team who are growing increasingly ambitious about taking their place is Preston North End. The Deepdale side are staying in touch with the top six and face Leeds at Elland Road this weekend.

One man who is looking forward to the clash is former Sheffield Wednesday loanee Aiden McGeady. Speaking to the official Preston North End website he spoke of how he sees Leeds as a Premier League team:

“There are a lot of big games coming up, a lot of big games. Leeds first and obviously they are a massive club. They’ve had a really good season, they are a sleeping giant really because they probably should be in the Premier League and they’ve obviously been a very successful club in the past.”

Of course McGeady might have ended up at Leeds last January, as Steve Evans pursued his signature. He confirmed to BBC Leeds:

“I think Aiden is a young man who, from speaking to his representatives a couple of weeks ago, may have options in the Premier League…

“There’s been no chats about Aiden McGeady since perhaps ten days ago, when Sam Byram was choosing West Ham over Everton, and it was perhaps part of the conversation at that time, but it was no more than a conversation involving Roberto Martinez and myself.”

The Irishman ended up heading to Sheffield Wednesday before joining Preston on loan from Everton in the summer.

Now he will get the chance to experience the vociferous support at Elland Road first hand, but as an opposing player, with hopes of downing the West Yorkshire giants.
