Former Celtic youngster Aidan Mcilduff will reportedly play for the Leeds United Under-23 side against their Southampton counterparts today.

Leeds United are interested in signing former Celtic youngster Aidan Mcilduff in the summer transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that the left-back will play for the Leeds Under-23 side against their Southampton counterparts in a friendly match on Saturday.

The 20-year-old featured for the Whites against Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ittihad last weekend, and it seems that he will get another chance to impress and earn a contract with the Championship club.

Mcilduff was released by Celtic earlier in the summer, but the young defender had been informed by the Glasgow giants before the 3-0 victory over Rangers in Youth Cup final in April that he would not get a new deal.

It must have been a bitter disappointment for the youngster not to be able to get a new contract, but the 20-year-old’s comments back in April suggest that he can bounce back from the disappointment.

The left-back stated that he wanted to draw inspiration from Andrew Robertson, who was released by Celtic when he was just 15 years of age.

The 23-year-old left-back went on to play for Queen’s Park and Dundee United before earning the move to Hull City in England in 2014.

Robertson joined Liverpool from Hull City earlier this month for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £10 million.

“Andy Robertson is clearly the ultimate example for someone like me,” McIlduff told The Scottish Sun in April. “It’s well documented that it didn’t work out for him, for whatever reason, at Celtic and he rebuilt his career at Queen’s Park.

“He got his head down, worked hard and never stopped believing and it took him very quickly to Hull City and the full Scotland team via Dundee United.

“That’s how I have to look at this, that I’ve had a setback but it’s not the end of the road. I know I’ll do a really good job for the next manager who takes a chance on me. They won’t regret it.”
