Paul Clement has a selection dilemma on his hands after a string of injuries have left Swansea with no fit senior right-back and concerns over their impressive fullback on the other flank.

The cost of Saturday’s defeat at Hull City was not just dropped points as Angel Rangel, who was making his first Premier League start of the calendar year in place of the injured Kyle Naughton, had to be replaced after just half an hour.

Rangel revealed on his Twitter account that he has fractured a metatarsal in his right foot, likely meaning he will be out for the rest of the season.

The club are hopeful that Naughton’s hamstring injury will have healed in time for their next match at Bournemouth, but if not Clement could ask centre-half Jordi Amat to fill in at right-back as he did against Hull.

Another option would be to give 21-year-old right-back Connor Roberts a chance to step up, with some fans drawing parallels to the circumstances which led to Ben Davies being given his first run in the Swansea team.

Roberts spent last season on loan at League Two Yeovil and part of this campaign a division higher with Bristol Rovers, but only made two league appearances for the latter and has never played for the Swans’ first team.

With Martin Olsson also suffering an ankle injury at the weekend, playing an established left-back at right-back doesn’t look like an option.

For now Swansea will have to hope Naughton can stay fit for the rest of the season, but the injury to Rangel is another reminder that this is a position the club could do with strengthening over the summer.
