Southampton are said to be confident of signing Gylfi Sigurdsson this summer.
Gylfi Sigurdsson is renowned for his ability at dead ball situations
Southampton fans have been reacting after the club was linked with a summer swoop for Gylfi Sigurdsson, and it’s fair to say that the proposed move would go down pretty well on the South Coast.
Sky Sports is reporting that the Saints are confident of signing the Iceland international should Swansea be relegated. They currently sit 18th, two points from Premier League safety.
Despite his current club’s struggles, Sigurdsson has enjoyed another stellar season with eight goals and 11 assists already this league campaign.
These figures eclipse those of Southampton’s top scorers – Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin with six goals apiece – and their most prolific creator, Dusan Tadic, who has five assists.
With statistics like those it’s not hard to see why the prospect of the 27-year-old turning out in red and white stripes is exciting the St Mary’s faithful, who have seen their side struggle to both create and take chances this campaign.
Sigurdsson was one of Iceland’s heroes at Euro 2016
And fans with good memories will also remember him netting a pair of Premier League winners against Southampton; one at Swansea earlier this season and the other in the 92nd minute while he was playing for Tottenham in 2014.
Without any further ado, he’s what some Saints fans have had to say on Sigurdsson.
