Jeremy Pied has not played for Southampton in seven months.
Jeremy Pied in action for Nice
Southampton defender Jeremy Pied has told fans he’s fit again and thanked them for their support during his recovery from injury.
The Frenchman took to Twitter to deliver the news, declaring himself “back and ready to give my best” as he posted pictures of himself in full training.
Southampton’s next game is a week on Saturday against neighbours Bournemouth, and it’s possible Pied’s first game back could be for the first team as the under-23 side don’t have a fixture until April 10.
He joined Saints on a free transfer in the summer but made only one substitute appearance before tearing his cruciate ligament in training in August.
Manger Claude Puel knows him well, having coached him at Nice last season, and when the 28-year-old arrived he looked to be filling an area of need with both of Southampton’s right-backs failing to impress at times last season.
However Cedric Soares has dramatically improved this season to the extent that, according to the Telegraph, Barcelona are interested in signing him.
Pied has his work cut out if he’s to feature much before the end of this season, but if that eye-catching transfer comes up and Cuco Martina clearly not fancied by Puel, next campaign is the one he should be targeting.
