As it stands, Jonathan Kodjia will not play for Aston Villa again this season.

Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia has confirmed that the club is appealing the red card he received at Fulham on Easter Monday.

He made the comment on Twitter after being asked about a possible appeal by a fan, and also revealed that the club expects to find whether or not they have been successful on Thursday.

The Ivorian, who is Villa’s top scorer, appeared to kick Fulham’s Ryan Fredericks having been angered by the fullback’s legs wrapping around his body and many Villa supporters felt that if one player was sent off the other should have been too.

As it stands Kodjia’s season is over as he’s subject to a three-game ban and Villa only have three games left in the campaign.

However the first of those remaining games is at home to bitter rivals Birmingham City, who are only three points above the drop, so despite having nothing to play for themselves the fixture carries huge importance to Aston Villa fans.

Their other two matches are against Blackburn Rovers and Brighton, a side already promoted.

Kodjia has scored 19 Championship goals this season – the fifth most in the division and the same tally he managed last year at Bristol City – so the opportunity to add to that figure is presumably a source of personal motivation as well.
