Hull City and Newcastle United square off in the League Cup next month.
Newcastle United travel to Hull City next month in the quarter-finals of the League Cup after being paired with the Premier League side in last night’s tie.
Rafael Benitez’s troops thumped Preston North End 6-0 to reach the last eight on Tuesday, while Hull edged out Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Aleksandar Mitrovic and Mohamed Diame both bagged a brace in the rout, while Matt Ritchie and Ayoze Perez also contributed to the demolition at St James’s Park.

Next month’s quarter-final will see Diame return to the KC Stadium for the first time since his £4.5 million switch to Newcastle in the summer.
And Hull wing-back Ahmed Elmohamady has tweeted about the 29-year-old’s imminent return to the Tigers.

Diame, who has also played for West Ham United and Wigan in the Premier League, could and probably should be given a warm reception by his former fans.
Hull reached the Premier League via the playoffs last season, and it was Diame’s goal which sealed a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the final.
