Well, it looks like Steven Gerrard may be leaving Rangers to join Aston Villa.
According to Sky Sports, Gerrard is ‘open’ to the idea of becoming Dean Smith’s successor at Aston Villa.
The Rangers boss has done magnificent work in Glasgow and delivered a first Scottish Premiership title for a decade last season.
TalkSPORT have also reported that the 41-year-old is expected to be named as the new Aston Villa manager this week.
All in all it seems like he’s a goner at Ibrox, if the reports are accurate.
And Ahmed Elmohamady, who left the Premier League club during the summer, has uploaded a cryptic photo of him facing Gerrard on the field.
Context
This would be a lot more worrying for Rangers fans if Elmohamady was still at Aston Villa.
Having said that, the former Egypt international only left Villa Park a matter of months ago and therefore he may still be reacting to personal information here, rather than what’s in the public consciousness.
All things considered, it isn’t looking good for the Scottish Premiership champions right now and the silence from Gerrard himself is deafening.
Rangers fans will argue that Aston Villa isn’t a step up and those in the Midlands will argue that it very much is.
But Gerrard’s ultimate ambition is probably the Liverpool job and there’s no doubt that success at Aston Villa will take him closer to that post than anything he could win in Scotland.
