The Aston Villa defender is doing a fine job at right-back.

Ahmed Elmohamady was not the only Aston Villa full-back who needed to win over his doubters this season but, much like Alan Hutton on the opposite flank, the Egypt international has shone in recent weeks, to such an extent that he is now one of the first names on the team sheet.
The 30-year-old is one of a number of right-backs available to Villa boss Steve Bruce, and in recent weeks it has become clear that Elmohamady is ahead of Hutton, James Bree and Ritchie de Laet in the pecking order.

That did not go down well with all Villa’s fans, with the former Hull City man’s defensive attributes coming in for scrutiny. however he has now ironed out most of his problems and his impact going forward has played a major role in the club’s resurgence.
Villa have gone the way of Elmohamady, overcoming a shaky start to prove their worth, and on this evidence it is hard to see the defender making way for any of his rival full-backs as long as he remains fit and available.

Bruce knows the player well from their time together at the Tigers and he clearly trusts the international to do a job for him week in, week out.
That is now paying off and the doubters are coming round to Bruce’s way of thinking, with the attack-minded Elmohamady playing a major role in a likely promotion push between now and May.
