Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been lapping up the plaudits in recent weeks. The Egyptian has been in fine form this season, after joining the club from Roma in the summer.

This summer he will be heading to the World Cup in Russia with the weight of a nation on his shoulders, as the Pharaohs look to cause a few shocks at the tournament.

One man who will be playing with him is Aston Villa wide-man Ahmed Elmohamady.

The defender or midfielder was speaking to FIFA.com, this week when he explained just how impressed he has been with the improvement made by his good friend:

“He’s a great lad, he played a big part in these qualifiers. I’ve known him for a long time, since he was young. He’s improved a lot: physically, mentally.

“You see the way he plays with Liverpool, his achievements are amazing. He’s been good for us in the national team. I hope he can keep the form he’s in now until the World Cup – it would be fantastic for us.”

Salah’s form has been nothing but sensational, scoring 31 goals in 38 games since his switch to Liverpool from the Italian capital.

Elmohamady, who is currently fighting to get Aston Villa promoted back to the Premier League, will be hoping he and Salah can lead Egypt to some unexpected glory in Russia in the summer.

Until then, he will just hope to give support to Aston Villa’s own version of Salah in Robert Snodgrass as they chase a return to the top-flight and a potential meeting with Salah next season.
