Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Robin Olsen will make his loan deal at Aston Villa permanent from AS Roma.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Olsen will join Aston Villa permanently after spending the second half of the past season on loan from AS Roma.

Roma recalled the 32-year-old Sweden international goalkeeper from his loan at Sheffield United and sent him on loan to Villa.

Olsen made only one start for Villa in the Premier League during his loan spell.

Romano has reported that Villa will soon announce that they have made Olsen’s loan deal permanent, adding that Roma will get €3.5 million (£3 million) as transfer fee for him.

Sensible move

In our view, Aston Villa are making a smart decision in making Robin Olsen’s loan deal from AS Roma permanent.

Olsen is a very experienced goalkeeper who is an able back-up to Emiliano Martinez.

Now, we know that former Arsenal goalkeeper Martinez is the number one between the posts for the Villans.

That is not going to change anytime soon.

However, Villa manager Steven Gerrard needs someone who can come in and do a job between the posts for the Villans at short notice if Martinez gets injured or plays poorly.

Given his experience, Olsen could be that goalkeeper.
