Leeds United are already spoilt for choice on the right-wing, but Marcelo Bielsa’s selection headache in that position only looks likely to grow.
The Argentine already has to choose between Helder Costa, Raphinha and Ian Poveda in that spot, but summer signing Crysencio Summerville is a player that may soon catch his eye.
The Dutchman has already earnt plaudits since joining Leeds, and his description of his style of play looks perfect for Bielsa’s style
“I often hear that there are doubts because of my physical condition, but when you are on the field, you are not concerned with that.
“There are often big defenders in front of me, I have to be smart about that. I know I’m agile and try to play with my mind,” Summerville said earlier this year.
An agile player who tries to play smartly is just what Bielsa wants from his wingers.
While he has a number of players ahead of him in the pecking order, if he can show what he can do in training, there’s no reason why he can’t make his debut by the end of the season.
It was only last week that Bielsa said that half of the U23s side can stake a claim for a place in the first-team, and you have to imagine that Summerville is one of the players on the verge of making that step up.
It’s not just Summerville himself who has spoken highly of his ability either.
Premier League legend Dirk Kuyt worked with the winger earlier in his career, and he gave him a glowing review back in 2018.
“He is a great talent. He has developed so far so far. He has fantastic passing, movement and no arguing with the ball,” Kuyt said.
Everything we know about Summerville so far points towards him being a fantastic talent further down the line, and if Bielsa can teach him his ways, Leeds could have a real player on their hands.
It will certainly be interesting to watch how he develops in the coming months at Elland Road.
