Neil Warnock has moved to distance Cardiff City from reports linking the club with a swoop for Leeds United’s Ronaldo Vieira [via Wales Online]
The Sun (15/7 p59) reported Cardiff wanted to pay £8 million to sign Vieira, with The Mirror later backing up the story and claiming a £7 million bid was likely.
Warnock has rejected the claims he wants the Leeds talent, and hints that agents have been driving the rumours.
The former Leeds boss said that third parties have generated the rumour, even suggesting that he rejected he possibility when it was put to him.
He said: “We’ve been linked quite a few times with him and from about four different agents I think, so I don’t know which one of them put it in the press!
“When I read a couple of things in the papers, I think ‘have I not said no about this player before?”
Warnock’s comments should help Leeds fans feel a little better over fears they could lose the England under-20 international.
Even so it is not especially good that his name is being hawked around Premier League sides by agents, if this is the case.
Vieira missed Leeds’ first pre-season game this week against Forest Green Rovers, with reasons for his absence unclear.
