West Bromwich Albion are in talks to sign Turkey international Okay Yokuslu from Celta Vigo, the midfielder’s agent Batur Altiparmak has told AS.
Baggies boss Sam Allardyce might have been exaggerating a little when he suggested that the Midlanders would launch enquiries for 250 different players this month, but there are certainly plenty of irons in West Brom’s fire.
Yokuslu is one of many sturdy defensive midfielders on the radar, despite a less-than-impressive 2020/21 season in La Liga.
The £5.2 million enforcer has started just three matches in Spain’s top flight in 2020/21 and, when he has played, criticism has not been far away.
Yokuslu was perhaps the main culprit as a previously-resurgent Celta were swept aside 4-0 by Villarreal last time out.
Whether Yokuslu is capable of offering a layer of protection in front of the Premier League’s most porous backline, therefore, is up for debate.
AS has contacted the player’s agent and, according to Altiparmak, West Brom have entered talks over a short-term deal for the 26-year-old.
According to Allardyce himself, speaking to talkSPORT on Monday morning (11:00am), the Baggies are looking at loan deals which could be made permanent if West Brom replicate that infamous ‘Great Escape’ of 2005.
AS add that Yokuslu’s exit would free up funds for Celta to sign the new centre-forward manager Eduardo Caudet has demanded.
