Alexis Malavolta – the agent of Bruno Guimaraes – has been speaking to Foot Mercato about his client’s start to life at Newcastle.

What’s the story?

Well, the Brazilian completed a £40m move from Lyon to Newcastle in January, and he’s started well on Tyneside.

The 24-year-old scored a stunning backheeled volley on his first start for the Magpies, resulting in a 2-1 win over Southampton having gone 1-0 down.

It hasn’t all been down to natural talent, however, even though there’s a lot of it to work with.

Malavolta said: “Bruno studies English every day with the same teacher who taught him French. He is still looking for a home in Newcastle. In the meantime, he lives with me. I decided to settle in Newcastle because it is a decisive year for Bruno. His parents will also move here.”

Clearly, Bruno Guimaraes is committed to Newcastle, as he’s working hard every day to learn the language and settle in with his teammates.

Learning a new language is not an easy thing to do by any means, so he deserves credit for getting to work as soon as possible.

Newcastle have a gem in Bruno Guimaraes

In our view, Newcastle have a player who Eddie Howe can build his side around in Bruno Guimaraes.

He is a charismatic presence, who also appears to be a leader on the field as he can be seen barking out orders left, right and centre.

At the age of 24, there is so much more to come from the South American, and we’re sure his £40m price tag will seem like a bargain in a few years.

Newcastle’s No.39 is able to play as a deep-lying midfielder, or as a more advanced figure who can make an impact in the final third.

To put it simply, he will be the heart of this Newcastle side for many years.
