Liverpool may have brought in Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak during the January transfer window, but they’re still likely to bring in another new defender.
The Reds have seen Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all go down with injury this season, and another signing is expected this summer.
Fabrizio Romano claimed last month that a deal for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate is close, but nothing has been confirmed by either club yet.
Liverpool have seemingly looked at other defenders too, with Calciomercato claiming that they wanted to sign Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni.
It was stated that Inter and Bastoni turned down an offer from Liverpool, and also rejected Barcelona, with the defender intent on staying at the San Siro.
Bastoni, 22, joined Inter from Atalanta in 2017, and has played a key role in Antonio Conte’s men winning the Serie A title this season.
The defender is a star already and still has a huge future ahead of him, so it’s no huge shock that Liverpool were interested in bringing the left-footer to Anfield.

Now, agent Tullio Tinti has told Calciomercato that Bastoni has agreed a new deal with Inter and wants to stay with his boyhood team, meaning Liverpool’s hopes may be over for a long time.
“I’ve already reached an agreement with Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio for a contract extension, we agreed that a while ago,” said Tinti. “Now we’re waiting for a response from Inter’s owners but the player wants to stay at Inter, it’s the team he supports as well.”
“The agreement hasn’t been finalised because the owners have been absent up until now, but the president Zhang has come back to Milan to clarify everything,” he added.
