Reported Aston Villa and West Ham United target Fabio Borini is set to become a free agent but has not made a decision about his future just yet, agent Roberto di Fanti tells Radio Punto Nuovo, via Calciomercato.

At the age of 29, the former Chelsea, Liverpool, Swansea City and Sunderland striker could be set for one last spell in the Premier League.

Borini’s AC Milan contract expired on Monday but, while the Italian now finds himself without a club, he is not short of offers.

Calciomercato reported that West Ham could look to reunite David Moyes with his former Sunderland front man, while Tuttomercatoweb suggested in August that Aston Villa and recently-relegated Watford are also interested.

After impressing on loan at Hellas Verona last season, Borini is in no rush as he mulls over what looks to be one of his last moves as a top level footballer.

“Borini? His contract is expiring, but he is still very young. He is 29 years old and has experience,” said Di Fanti, Sunderland’s former director of football.

“We are in no hurry to make hasty decisions in the market. As we have always done, we will make the right and thoughtful choice for the career of Fabio.”

Borini’s attitude and adaptability means he has not often played in his favoured centre-forward role in recent years, forced to accept a wider, more defensive position in order to get into AC Milan’s starting XI.

As a result, the ex-Chelsea starlet has scored just eight goals in 65 games since returning to Italy in 2017.

But, as Moyes said during their time together at Sunderland, this is a man who has a lot to offer as a number nine.

“Fabio we know can score goals, he’s got good energy,” Moyes told the Chronicle.
