Marseille star Florian Thauvin is asking for around £75,000-a-week from his next club amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, agent Bruno Stain explained to Estadio Deportivo.

You would think that the World Cup winning winger would be about to enter the summer market in a position of real personal power.

Thauvin’s contract is due to expire in July.

And, with the one-time Newcastle United youngster available for free in just a few months, he is looking to secure a substantial pay-packet, his hand seemingly strengthened by the absence of a transfer fee.

Estadio Deportivo report that Jose Mourinho’s Spurs side are interested, along with Napoli and Roma. Leicester, meanwhile, have made an offer of their own for a left-footed right-winger who could replace the on-loan Cengiz Under at the King Power Stadium.

But, according to Thauvin’s agent, none of the approaches have so far met the expectations of his 28-year-old client.

“There is a significant risk that he will have to (join a new club) for a lower amount than what was offered to him by Marseille,” Stain admitted.

“I can tell you that I was at a big European club this week (to hold talks). Thauvin asks for an annual net salary of between 4 and 4.5 million euros (up to £75,000-a-week) and nobody wants to give that to him today.

“He still produces goals and assists, and he is only 28 years old.”

Thavuin missed pretty much the entirety of the 2019/20 season through injury but has put those fitness concerns behind him this term, tallying eight goals and nine assists for a Marseille side locked in a state of seemingly permanent crisis.

After a rejuvenated Gareth Bale announced his plans to return to Real Madrid last week, Thauvin feels like a readymade replacement for Spurs’ Welsh wizard.
