Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic and West Ham United reportedly want Chancel Mbemba from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported by the Portuguese publication that Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, Premier League side West Ham, German club Hoffenheim, and Belgian sides Brugge, Anderlecht, and Standard Liege all wanted to sign Mbemba from Newcastle in the summer transfer window.

Move to FC Porto imminent?
Mbemba’s agent, Fabio Baglio, has revealed that the 23-year-old defender is set to join Portuguese giants FC Porto in the summer transfer window.
Baglio told A Bola about Mbemba: “He is very excited about signing for FC Porto. He is waiting for an agreement between the two clubs to travel to Portugal in order to undergo the medical examinations and put the signature on paper.”

Disappointment for West Ham and Celtic?
Mbemba is a good defender and is only 23 years of age, and the DR Congo international would have been a good signing for West Ham or Celtic.
Both the Hammers and the Hoops could do with a talented and promising young central defender for next season and beyond, but it seems that the Newcastle man is off to FC Porto.
Porto won the league title in Portugal this past season, and they are guaranteed a place in the group stage of the Champions League during the 2018-19 campaign.
Mbemba was playing in the Championship in England in 2016-17; next season he will be turning out in the Champions League.
