Brentford are keen on one-time Liverpool target Sebastian Szymanski as the Premier League surprise packages look to plan for life without Christian Eriksen, the Poland international’s agent tells Meczyki.
It was an assist Eriksen himself would have been proud of.
Picking up the ball on the edge of a crowded penalty area, Szymanski carved a path through the Belgium defence almost as if he was taking on a wall of ice with a flamethrower. His perfectly weighted through-ball was an invitation the prolific Robert Lewandowski simply couldn’t turn down, slotting home amid the slush of Roberto Martinez’s liquified backline.
Now, Szymanski’s moment of defence-splitting magic counted for little in the end with Belgium racking up six goals in last week’s UEFA Nations League clash.
But it was enough to show Brentford fans what they can expect from a man who may soon be tasked with stepping into the shoes of arguably the most naturally gifted footballer in the club’s history.
Will Sebastian Szymanski replace Christian Eriksen at Brentford?
“Four clubs from Bundesliga are interested in him, there are inquiries from France. Brentford from the Premier League have also targeted him in this transfer window,” says Mariusz Piekarski, agent of the one-time Liverpool target.

23-year-old Szymanski has a contract at Dynamo Moscow until 2026. He is expected to depart imminently, however, as the conflict continues between Russia and Ukraine. Dynamo reportedly turned down a £17 million bid from an unnamed Premier League club recently. And you have to wonder if Brentford are the mystery club in question.
Szymanski provided six goals and nine assists at club level last season. What’s more, he plays in largely the same attacking midfield role Eriksen has filled with distinction since returning to the Premier League at the start of 2022.
Eriksen’s short-term contract expired in May. And, according to The Athletic, Manchester United have made an offer for an experienced free-agent also on the radar of Everton and former club Tottenham Hotspur.
Brentford have also shown an interest in £20 million Ukraine international Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Shakhtar Donetsk forward, however, insists that he ‘definitely’ won’t be playing under Thomas Frank next term.
