Arsenal may soon face a decision over Lucas Torreira, with a January return currently being rumoured.

The Gunners were open to losing Torreira over the summer, but no buyers came forward for him, meaning they had to accept a loan offer from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal then snapped up Atletico ace Thomas Partey, seemingly paving the way for Torreira to receive playing time under Diego Simeone – but that hasn’t happened.

The Uruguayan has started just two games for Atleti, and his total of Champions League minutes this season stands at just 32 across four substitute appearances.

Players often take time to adjust to life under Simeone, as his style of play isn’t for everyone, but Torreira is now being linked with an Arsenal return.

Tuttomercatoweb claim that Atletico want to end Torreira’s loan deal in January and send him back to Arsenal, as he has failed to meet expectations.

Torino are keen to rescue Torreira if that happens, but agent Pablo Bentancur has played down talk of the 24-year-old heading back to Arsenal next month.

“Lucas is calm and happy and has nothing else in mind but to continue with Atletico,” said Bentancur to Gianluca Di Marzio, seemingly suggesting that Torreira wants to continue trying to adapt to Simeone’s demands rather than move on in the winter window.
