Alfie Whiteman is set to leave Tottenham on loan again in the ‘next few days’ with the Spurs goalkeeper currently in the USA to strike a deal. Whiteman is out of contract this summer with the North London club.
Whiteman, 23, has failed to break into Tottenham’s senior side – only making one sub appearance in the Europa League with Jose Mourinho in charge. Right now, Hugo Lloris and Pierluigi Gollini are preferred.
It saw him go on loan to Swedish side Degefors during the first half of the season – where he conceded a hefty 24 goals in 13 games, managing just one clean sheet. He has returned to Spurs, where his contract ends in June.
With the January window closing for the majority of countries, it looked as if Whiteman would remain at Spurs until the summer. But now, his agent has told Fotboll Direkt that he is in the USA – and a move is expected soon.
“It will be clear in the next few days,” Whiteman said. “Alfie is in the US now to go on loan to a new club. It will probably be presented shortly. I can not say anything [what club] But it will be clear in the next few days.”
Whiteman to go on loan again: Tottenham star has no future
Whiteman is said to be well-liked behind the scenes at Spurs, having been at the club since 2008 – joining at the age of 10. His 14-year stay is expected to come to an end in just six months time.
Now it appears he will be going on loan for the final few months of his Spurs contract. A move to the MLS, where numerous Tottenham 23’s have gone in the past, is on the cards – but his agent says it could be any club.
But one thing is for sure, Whiteman is unlikely to pull on a Tottenham shirt again – having only ever done so as a substitute against Ludogorets.
