Steven Gerrard sanctioned the ex Rangers player’s release after barely 18 months at Ibrox.
The agent of Rangers striker, Alfredo Morelos, has described Carlos Pena’s latest move as ‘one of the weirdest for some time’.
Pena was released by Rangers at the start of February, barely 18 months since he arrived at Ibrox in a £2.7 million deal (Transfermarkt).
And it took the Mexican more than a month to find a new home, eventually joining GKS Tychy on a contract until 2020.
Pena previously claimed to have offers from clubs in Poland’s top division, but will now ply his trade in the country’s tier.
Posting on Twitter yesterday evening (Monday), Jonne Lindblom, who helped to broker Morelos’s transfer to Rangers two years ago, wrote: “One of the weirdest transfers for some time. Rangers paid €3M for Carlos Peña in 2017. Today Peña signed for a Polish 1st division side…”
Morelos recently extended his contract at Ibrox, again with the help of Lindblom’s World in Motion agency.
The Colombian striker is now tied to Rangers until 2023, although the Gers may struggle to keep him that long if his recent form continues.
