The agent of new Glasgow Rangers recruit Carlos Pena has admitted his client’s Ibrox move is being viewed as a stepping stone to England’s Premier League.
Pena became Rangers’ seventh and penultimate summer signing on Thursday, arriving for an undisclosed fee from Liga Mex side Chivas Guadalajara.
The 27-year-old has agreed a contract until 2020 at Ibrox, although the Scottish giants will be lucky if he sees that out based on Salvador Necochea’s comments in The Scottish Sun on Monday.
“The objective is for Carlos to return to the level he was at a couple of years ago if he focuses 100 per cent on football and works hard,” he said.
“If he manages to do that, within no more than a couple of years he should be able to move to an English Premier League team, which is our aim.

“If he gets to the level we all know he can reach, he can do it.”
Rangers fans could get to see Pena for the first time in competitive action on Thursday, when Luxembourg’s Progres Niederkorn visit Ibrox for the first leg of their Europa League first qualifying round tie.
Of Pedro Caixinha’s eight new recruits, only Portuguese winger Daniel Candeias is unable to feature in the fixture, as his registration will not be released by former club, Alanyaspor, until 1 July.

Rangers, who continue to be linked with moves for Graham Dorrans, Jamie Walker and Kenny McLean, are still able to register one ‘wildcard’ player before Wednesday’s deadline.
Are Pena’s agent’s comments a good or bad thing for Glasgow Rangers?
