Liverpool were close to signing one goalkeeper this summer amid rumours of Caoimhin Kelleher’s departure from Anfield.

That’s according to one player’s agent as Arne Slot prepares to begin his revolution at Anfield after replacing Jurgen Klopp, who had nine brilliant years at Liverpool.

The Reds are surely set to be busy this summer as they embark on a rebuild with Slot, who lifted the Eredivisie title last season with Feyenoord.

A new defensive option as well as a forward are understood to be the club’s priorities this summer but it appears they have missed out on the signing of a goalkeeper.

Liverpool miss out on goalkeeper signing to Juventus

Goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio has this week completed a move from Italian side Monza to Thiago Motta’s Juventus.

The 26-year-old, a product of Inter Milan’s youth academy, kept 12 clean sheets for Monza in the 2023-24 season.

Juventus are reportedly paying £15 million to sign the former Inter goalkeeper but it has emerged that Liverpool were one of the clubs keen according to the player’s agent, Carlo Belloni.

“Yes, there was a chat with Liverpool and obviously we were very pleased. However, we had given our word and had clear ideas after Monza,” he told TV Play.

“However, we had no doubts about the choice after speaking with [Cristiano] Giuntoli. We remained faithful to Juve because it was what he wanted, what Juve wanted and Thiago Motta immediately came up with Di Gregorio’s name.”

Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation unclear

The Reds’ goalkeeping situation is currently unclear. Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper Alisson, who moved to Anfield from AS Roma back in 2018, has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League this summer.

As for Caoimhin Kelleher, the Irish goalkeeper has been linked with a move to Celtic with HITC reporting that Liverpool’s number two is tempted by the chance to join the Scottish champions.

If Kelleher were to depart the club this summer, a new number two would be brought in but Di Gregorio will not be one of them as he has joined Juventus.
