The Italian international had been expected to leave the club this summer.
Emanuele Giaccherini of Sunderland
The agent of Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini has confirmed that the Italian international is on his way to Napoli in the coming days.
It had looked for some time that the Black Cats outcast was on his way to Torino however, as confirmed by his agent Furio Valcareggi to TuttoMercatoWeb, a late approach from Napoli changed everything:
“The operation was almost done with Torino but then suddenly came in Napoli and we blocked everything.
“I made a cute little figure with Torino, but unfortunately this is football. We chose Napoli because it is a company which points to the Scudetto and will play in the Champions League.”

He also mentioned the fee expected to be paid for the player – a measly €1.5 million (£1.25 million), which he described expertly:
“It’s like finding a wallet full on the ground. The agreement with Napoli was found quickly, for a three-year contract.”
That fee represents a big loss for Sunderland.

Giaccherini was a shock coup for Sunderland back in 2013. He arrived from Juventus for a fee reported by The Mirror to be in the £6.5 million region. Sunderland therefore look set to lose around £5.25 million on the player.
The more painful fact behind this loss is the clear potential Giaccherini had to be a hit for Sunderland.
Giaccherini in action for Bologna
He shone for Bologna in Serie A during a loan spell last season and followed up his good club campaign with a series of top performances for Italy at the European Championships this summer.
Sunderland however will never see the best of the talented winger as his move to Napoli now appears a mere formality.
