Lucas Alario is a player held in high regard by Tottenham Hotspur, but even more so his agent.

Tottenham Hotspur are long term admirers of Argentine talent Lucas Alario, having been linked to him in consecutive transfer windows.

The Sun reported Spurs’ interest last summer, with The Independent re-affirming their desire to sign him in January.

His agent has been talking him up this week, describing him as the best player in his homeland, and stating he is ready for a big move.

The catch is that River Plate are not so keen to sell.

Pedro Aldave told Tuttomercatoweb: “Alario is definitely ready for the jump to Europe. He is currently the best prospect of Argentine football, already in the national team. What more?”

“There are many teams interested, every time he takes the field there are observers from around the world. River Plate, however at this time is not willing to sell it, the operation is very difficult.”

Alario, 24, is at the age where he should want to test himself, and will not be short of offers with Lazio also interested. The Sun reported last summer that the forward has a release clause of around £15 million, which would suggest a move is simpler than his agent implies.

Alario has six goals in his last 15 league games for River, and one in his only Copa Libertadores appearance so far.

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino hails from Argentina and should know the market in his homeland well. Alario would be a gamble, and an unpredictable one for opponents to try and deal with.
