Agent Roger Wittmann has now offered an update on his talks with Liverpool about a new contract for Roberto Firmino. The forward is currently due to be a free agent from June 30.
Liverpool have a host of players reaching the end of their contracts in the summer. Firmino last penned a new deal on Merseyside in April 2018 to commit his future to the Reds until 2023. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita are also at the end of theirs.
Firmino has now been at Anfield for the last eight years after joining from TSG Hoffenheim in June 2015. Liverpool paid the Bundesliga outfit £29m to bring the Brazilian to the Premier League on a five-year contract. They later awarded the forward a £180k-a-week extension.

Anfield chiefs are now in talks with Wittmann, who has represented Firmino for years and negotiated his transfer to Liverpool, over a new contract. Boss Jurgen Klopp is reluctant to see the 31-year-old leave for free in the summer with several teams keen on his signature.
Inter Milan are tracking Firmino’s situation ahead of Romelu Lukaku going back to Chelsea at the end of his loan spell, per Gazzetta dello Sport. While the Daily Mail notes Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Sao Paolo are also now monitoring developments at Anfield.

Wittmann admits to talks with Liverpool over a new contract for Firmino
Firmino is currently sidelined due to a muscle injury and has not featured since before the World Cup. Klopp has indicated that the Brazilian will return at some stage over February. He is Liverpool’s joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season with seven goals so far.
The 55-cap international has hit nine goals and laid on four assists through 21 appearances across all competitions this term. Now, Wittmann believes discussions with Liverpool on a new contract for Firmino are heading in the right direction to see him recommit his future.
“It’s a very long relationship between Roberto and Liverpool,” Wittmann has now told Sky Germany. “Roberto feels good. At the moment, we’re in a great exchange and in February we’ll probably know where the journey is going.
“But Roberto also has to have a say in order to reach an agreement with Liverpool. We’re on the right track [and] we’re having really good talks with Liverpool. They’re a superbly positioned club.”
