Brendan Rodgers’ Premier League outfit Leicester City tried and failed to sign Lokomotiv Moscow defender Kvirkvelia as Harry Maguire’s replacement.

Soloman Kvirkvelia turned down a potential £9 million move to Leicester City as he wanted to stay and win the Russian Premier League with Lokomotiv Moscow instead, the defender’s agent has told Championnat.
When the transfer window slammed shut on August 8th, The Foxes were left in a rather awkward position. Though not for a lack of trying, Brendan Rodgers’ side had failed to secure a replacement for Harry Maguire after the England international’s world-record move to Manchester United.
In an ideal world, Kvirkvelia would have arrived at the King Power Stadium, two years after he joined Lokomotiv Moscow from Rubin Kazan.
But it wasn’t to be. The 34-time Georgia international is desperate to re-claim the league title after tasting domestic success with Lokomotiv in his first season at the RZD Arena.
“Why did Kvirkvelia not go to Leicester? He refused, he wanted to become a champion,” Mamuka Dzhugeli claims.
“He said; ‘I’ll stay for another six months. I want Lokomotiv to become a champion’. Leicester offered £9 million.”

Fortunately for Rodgers and co, Caglar Soyuncu has stepped up and to make everyone at Leicester forget all about their former number 15. The Turkish international has formed a promising partnership with Jonny Evans at the start of the new campaign with The Foxes embarking on their most exciting season since the heady days of Claudio Ranieri, N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez.
Interestingly, The Sun claims that Claude Puel wanted to bring Kvirkvelia to Leicester in 2017 when he was valued at £18 million.
