David Luiz’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, spoke to TalkSport about the future of his client beyond the end of this month.

Luiz now has less than two weeks left on his Arsenal contract. The Brazilian is yet to agree a short-term extension while there have been new doubts over his long-term future at the club as well.

The former Chelsea man had a shocking game last night against Manchester City. Luiz committed an error directly leading to goal, gave away a penalty and received a red card, all in 25 minutes.

The performance was possibly his worst in an Arsenal shirt. Fans and pundits urged Arteta and Arsenal to let him leave but there is a good chance that he will continue his stay at the club for another year.

Both Luiz and Arteta have come out and hinted a contract extension over the last week. His agent has now revealed when the whole situation will be resolved.

Joorabchian said: “The contract situation has dragged on not because of the will of David or Arsenal to finalise but really the situation that has occurred with the pandemic. The situation from Arsenal’s point of view will be resolved this week.”

“Not just David Luiz’s situation. There are several issues within the whole structure that will be resolved,” he said.

It is really strange for an agent to comment on a club’s plans about possibly changing their own structure. However, Joorabchian also represents Arsenal’s technical director, Edu Gaspar, which is probably how he has an inside scoop about the club’s future plans.

Luiz will be banned for the next three games due to his red card on Wednesday. If Arsenal decide against extending his contract, he might well have played his last game for the Gunners, and to end on a performance like that would certainly leave a sour taste in his mouth.
