Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos would choose Serie A over the Premier League but won’t be joining Napoli this summer, agent Miki Bourari has told CalcioNews24.

While speculation surrounding the future of one of Britain’s most lethal goalscorers has been on the backburner for some time, Gers fans cannot afford to relax just yet.

It is far from guaranteed, with clubs all over Europe needing a new number nine, that Morelos will begin the 2020/21 campaign at Ibrox.

But with Napoli expected to sign Victor Osimhen from Lille instead, at least that is one team who appear to have bowed out of the race for the Colombia international’s signature.

“Osimhen? Great footballer, if the attacker has arrived in the city and talks to the club, then it means that there is an excellent chance for the deal to be finalised,” Bourari says of a man who is heading to the Stadio San Paolo for a staggering £63 million (ESPN).

“The possible arrival of the Nigerian excludes the signing of another attacker; I’m talking about Alfredo Morelos.

“I had offered him to (Napoli’s sporting director Cristiano) Giuntoli, after he had given me his approval.

“(Morelos) is a very valuable player for whom there are different clubs interested, especially in the Premier League. But his preference is to move to Italy.”

CalcioNews24 add that, while Napoli appear to have their sights set on Osimhen, Bologna are still very much in the race to sign Morelos this summer.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard will have breathed an almighty sigh of relief when his 29-goal top scorer rejected a money-spinning move to Qatar on Tuesday, according to The Mail.

But his £15 million price-tag is unlikely to put off other suitors. After all, £15 million is a small price to pay (quite literally) for such a prolific goal-getter.
